Unfortunately, until governments stop listening to the fuel lobbyists, and public opinion starts to cop on, change will be painfully slow. I think people who have made the change recently and are seeing these issues may go back to an ICE car. It’s frustrating certainly, but for most people, day to day EVs are amazing and we’ll not be going back any time soon! Talking to the caravan dealers at the NEC show, they also seem to have their fingers in their ears about developing smaller lighter weight caravans with EV’s in mind…
Thank you for this interesting letter. The idea of a app for charching stations is great. It should even be a necessity to use the app to reach the charching point. I will start my first "golf tour" in Finland this summer towing a Knaus 450 FU Sport Silver Collection with my one year old Kia EV6. By the way Andrew, do you know about the battery warming up fearures in your Kia. It is a crucrial thing to cut down you charging time during winter.
Many thanks Rabbe. No, I was not aware that battery pre-conditioning was available after the October 2022 software update. Many thanks for this. I’ll give that a go. However, my biggest issue is not the time my own car takes to charge, it’s the time that every other car takes! ;) Do please let us know how you get on with your Golf Tour. Best wishes.
We only charge at home. We have a 2011 Nissan Leaf. Here in Australia the charging infrastructure is a lot less developed than the UK. Having watched things develop in the UK, I would say that it will improve but slowly. All the best and love the photos of the dogs on Instagram.
Wondering where you're plugging your car into the van? I have the same rig as you - EV6 + 304 and with most of the CAMC sites making you park on the offside of the van, seems like the TV plug in the lounge is the best option but I'm completely new to caravanning so I'm curious as to what your experience has been? :)
Llys y Fran Lakeview campsite in Pembrokeshire (SA63 4RR) will be opening late July 2023 with 19 hard standing pitches. The main car park has 8 dedicated EV charging points for public use.
We went to love2stay and tried to use the charger but it was not complementary and 65p a kWh. So cheaper to pop to Telford Tesco podpoint for a 50p a kWh rapid
Interesting idea on the queueing, it's the one of the issues with current charger design at service stations that causes anxiety (after wondering if it will work). Tesla have implemented the 80% cap when their sites get busy and the overstay fee, a step in the right direction, just need more chargers and the queueing algorithm. I'm currently driving a KIA eNiro and thankfully I've only had to queue about three times in three years but the chargers are definitely getting busier as people switch to electric. A comment on ICE cars blocking chargers, these days I feel it's more likely another EV overstaying their need. My opinion not conclusive evidence.
There is another problem, particularly in public car parks, where the selfish fossil fuel burners park at charging points because there’s a space! No app will sort that one out. Otherwise app control is a great way to manage the situation.
well as more and more EV come on the market maybe this problem will resolve itself with more stations. Happy travels with the two lads. Always enjoy your frank and honest comments. Hope you have an awesome season. All the best from, "The Rock", Newfoundland. (by the by there are NO charging stations here that I have seen. )
Excellent idea re queueing. More details re light ship emerging including LCD windows. Also this just dropped into my feed: https://youtu.be/bEsWJ8AHqD0
really does look like there will be lots to report on in this space for years to come.

100% Nicky. All the best.

Hi Andrew,
